KCB Unveils Star-Studded Volleyball Team for Africa Tourney

The KCB Women Volleyball team departs for Tunisia tomorrow to represent Kenya in the upcoming African Club Championship scheduled for May 13 – 26 2023.

The KCB Bank Kenya sponsored team today unveiled a star-studded squad of 14 players to defend the Continent’s title which they won last year. They will be battling it out with other African giants for the Championship.

The team will be captained by Edith Wisa, a Malkia Strikers middle-blocker and will be joined by among other Kenyan stars Mercy Moim, the Malkia Captain.

KCB is banking on the inclusion of Juliana Namutira, Mariam Musa, Esther Mutinda and Pauline Cherotich to bag the trophy.

“We believe we have what it takes to defend the title. We have been rebuilding the team since last year and participated in key tournaments to enhance our game. We will be going all out,” said KCB Head Coach Japheth Munala.

“This competition provides a good test for us to measure our strength against the best clubs on the continent. I am certain it is not going to be easy because each team comes prepared for the showpiece, but we will put up our best fight ever.”

The other team members include Belinda Barasa, Mildred Cherop, Lincy Jeruto, Shirleen Maiywa, Miriam Musa, Faith Cherotich, Magdalene Mwende, Immaculate Nekesa, and Josephine Wafula.

Speaking during a flagging ceremony Tuesday morning, KCB Group Director Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru said: “Our gallant girls are once again heading out for a hunt of the year in a competition that will see them battle it out with some of the big guns on the continent. We are looking forward to a tantalizing showpiece that will ultimately put us on the map once again as the undisputed volleyball champions.”.

From the technical bench, the traveling party will include Coach Munala, Paul Bitok, the technical advisor, team Manager Moses Kimani, team doctor Simon Kibe and fitness coach Elphas Adunga. Emily Odhiambo will lead the delegation.

Some of the players who did not make the cut for this year’s edition include Elizabeth Lemosiany and Phosca Kasisi who both have been ruled out due to injuries.
