The Lions Are Coming

12th Jul, 2016

We know of the adrenaline-charged Shark Tank or its British counterpart, Dragons’ Den: the popular television shows in which hopeful entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a group of investors to start, save or grow their businesses.

Now, the show is here. Dubbed Lions’ Den, it gives Kenyan entrepreneurs the opportunity to get the capital they so desperately desire and also acquire an experienced business guru as a partner. Sounds great, right? All they need to do is prove themselves in the Den of the Lions.

Starting September 2016, Kenya will have its very own version of the hit TV show KCB Lions’ Den, which will air exclusively on NTV from September 26th. Get ready to watch hopefuls rattle off the merits of their company in a bid to impress and sway the judges’ or Lady Luck their way.

KCB Lions’ Den will serve as a resourceful tool for aspiring entrepreneurs by providing them financing opportunities as well as free marketing through exposure and mentorship opportunities.

What’s the catch you might ask? None! In fact, KCB Lions’ Den is accommodative of all businesses as long as they are viable and can project sales forecasts. There’s no need to worry whether all one has is an idea, how long the business has been operational or the time constraints of employment. Anyone aged 18 years and above is encouraged to apply for this once in a lifetime opportunity online at www.bankika.co.ke or walk into any KCB Bank branch and pick up an application form by July 24th 2016.

The TV show is part of the Kshs. 50 Billion KCB Group 2Jiajiri Programme expected to benefit at least 500,000 youth in a period of 5 years. The programme, which also encompasses a business challenge for start-ups, will enable young entrepreneurs to submit their business ideas for funding.

You might be wondering what your role in this may be. Cheerleader, critic, aspiring Lion – you can be whatever you want to be in the comfort of your own home. Perch on the edge of your seat as you watch the chosen few sweat it out while pitching their businesses and answering grueling questions before they can convince the selected Lions to invest their own money in exchange for equity in the entrepreneurs’ business. Be sure to spread the word to family and friends to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

A word of advice to the applicants: Know your numbers, ooze confidence and roar the loudest in the Lions’ Den.
